TITLE SPONSOR ANNOUNCED FOR SHANGHAI MASTERS
Roewe, the Chinese joint venture partner of Rover, has been signed as the title sponsor of next month’s Shanghai Masters.
The tournament, which runs from August 6-12 at the Grand Stage in Shanghai, will be known as the 2007 World Snooker Roewe Shanghai Masters.
The agreement has been struck by the Chinese Billiards and Snooker Association through its promoter the East Asia Group. This follows World Snooker’s recent announcement that the CBSA will underwrite this new tournament for the next five years.
Roewe is a marque created by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, one of China’s largest car makers, following its acquisition of technology formerly owned by MG Rover.
It currently produces the Roewe 250 and Roewe 750, and earlier this year introduced the state-of-the-art Roewe 450 W2 concept car.
To emphasise their commitment Roewe are offering a new 750 V6 Shanghai Masters Car on top of the £20,000 already on offer, to any player making a maximum break during the tournament.
World Snooker chairman Sir Rodney Walker said: “It’s exciting to see a title sponsor agreement signed so quickly after the announcement of this new event, and with as prestigious a brand as Roewe.
“I’m delighted that, through the CBSA and its promoter, we are able to capitalise on snooker’s popularity boom in China.”
A press conference was staged at Roewe’s new Shanghai showroom to announce the agreement and was attended by:

The 2007 World Snooker Roewe Shanghai Masters, the first ranking event of the new season, will be contested by star players including Ronnie O’Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, home favourite Ding Junhui and 888.com World Champion John Higgins.
Other official partners recently announced for the event include Sina.com, Konka, Barco, Shanghai Oriental Sports Daily, East Asia Group, CCTV5, Shanghai Media Group, Star Tables Xingpai, Shanghai Regal East Asia Hotel, China Telecom, Shanghai Ba-shi Regent Venue Decoration, Hong Xing Er Ke and Lead Sport.
